Nelson Mullins Paralegals Earn Jean D. Nunn Excellence Award, Making a Difference Award

(March 22, 2016)–Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough paralegals Yvonne Brittain and Lana Morrison recently were honored with The Jean D. Nunn Excellence in Leadership Award, while Amy Hill has earned the new Making a Difference Award.

Ms. Brittain is a senior paralegal in the Myrtle Beach office and works in the areas of real estate, corporate mergers, acquisitions and reorganizations, banking, and healthcare. She also assists attorneys with pro bono matters, including Habitat for Humanity of Horry County and Wills for Heroes. She recently played a key role on a hospital affiliation transaction.

Ms. Morrison is a senior litigation paralegal in the Columbia office and has gained recognition across the Firm for her technology skills on large document collections and trials involving many different areas of law, including technology law, business liability, product liability, and securities litigation. Ms. Morrison has conducted training with the Firm's paralegals on courtroom technology. She was recognized with the 2003 E.W. Mullins, Sr. Paralegal Pro Bono Award for her work on Abbeville County School District vs. State of South Carolina, which found that the State had not provided a "minimally adequate" education to children in the state's poorest school districts. Also, for the past two years, Ms. Morrison has been a key participant in a client project involving large amounts of data.

The Jean D. Nunn Excellence Award was established in 2005 in honor of the Firm's first paralegal coordinator. Recipients are individuals who serve as role models to others in the Paralegal Department by virtue of the quality of work; dedication to client service; personal and professional ethics; recognition as a leader by peers; and continuing contributions to the paralegal program, the Firm, and the legal profession.

Ms. Hill is a senior paralegal in Raleigh and was recognized for conceiving and developing the new Making a Difference Award.  The new award can be given throughout the year to those who "make a difference" and will be the basis for eligibility for the Jean D. Nunn Excellence Award.
