Nelson Mullins’ David White Receives Middle Tennessee Football Foundation Recognition
NASHVILLE (March 21, 2017)–David J. White, a partner in Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP’s Nashville office, has received the 2016 Art Demmas Outstanding Official Award from the Middle Tennessee Chapter of the National Football Foundation. The honor was bestowed at the organization’s recent banquet in Franklin, Tenn., which was attended by more than 600 business and civic leaders, coaches, and players.
Mr. White has officiated more than 300 games in the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association, including a state championship and multiple play-off games. He also has officiated in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics since 2010 and worked as a referee in the 2016 national championship game in Florida. During 2012, he officiated in the NFL for a portion of the season. He will be working in an NCAA Division II conference this fall.
The award is presented by the Middle Tennessee Chapter to a Mid-State football official who displays the highest level of excellence in this challenging and pivotal role within the game, according to the organization. The award is named in honor of the late Art Demmas, who began officiating high school games in 1958 after graduating from Vanderbilt University, where he played football. He served as an SEC official for eight years and later officiated in four Super Bowls and three NFL conference championships before retiring in 1996.
The Middle Tennessee Chapter, which was founded by Mr. Demmas along with legendary sportswriter Fred Russell in 1961, is one of the oldest and most respected chapters of the National Football Foundation in the country, according to the organization.
