Nelson Mullins' Charles Mercer Appointed To Second Term on N.C. Bar Tax Section Council

RALEIGH (June 20, 2016)—Charles Mercer, a partner in Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP's Raleigh office, has been appointed to a second three-year term on the N.C. Bar Association's Tax Law Section Council.

The Tax Section offers programs on federal and local tax issues and engages in tax policy projects. The section, with currently 496 members, sponsors CLE programs and services; provides members with a substantive newsletter; and helps mold the association's legislative agenda for presentation to the N.C. General Assembly.

Mr. Mercer has represented plaintiffs and defendants in civil litigation matters, primarily handling cases for corporate clients. He represents corporations and individuals in state and local tax cases before administrative boards, commissions, and courts. He also advises clients in the area of economic development.

Mr. Mercer has served on the N.C. State Banking Commission and the N.C. Local Government Commission, and he served as chairman of the N.C. Property Tax Commission. In 2002, former N.C. Governor Michael Easley appointed Mr. Mercer to the Commission to Modernize State Finances.
