In an article published in the Summer 2017 print issue of The Franchise Handbook, Atlanta attorneys Bess Hinson and David Katz provide insight into the key privacy and security issues facing franchisors. The article details that “franchises remain among the most highly targeted business type for cyber-criminals.” Ms. Hinson and Mr. Katz state that a franchisor’s legal advisor should “perform a data security risk assessment of the franchisor and franchisees under the attorney-client privilege and map the data flows of the franchise system…The best way to prepare is to understand that each franchise system has its own features, culture, risk tolerances, business systems, methods of operation, information technology infrastructure support systems, marketing and promotional practices, and data collection and sharing practices.” Click here to read the full article.
